Durgapur, Bardhaman District, West Bengal: To commemorate the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, an iconic youth leader, January 12 is celebrated as National Youth Day since 1984. Essar Foundation celebrated the day by conducting an essay competition for adolescents in Durgapur sub-division in Bardhaman District of West Bengal with the help of Child in Need Institute (CINI), its partner agency in the Aanchal Project, which focuses on improving reproductive and child health.
In line with the spirit of the day, the theme of the competition was ‘Today’s Youth and Me’. Adolescents from the villages of Borgoria, Rupganj, Akandara, Molandighi and Shibpur in Kanksa and Durgapur-Faridpur blocks participated in this competition. Teachers of Kuldiha Junior High School in Kanksa Block were invited to judge the competition. The best three essays from each village were selected for awards.
