Hazira, Surat District, Gujarat:
According to medical experts, there is no substitute for human blood and one unit of donated blood can save up to three lives. Every year, the country registers severe shortfall in the amount of blood units required, thus impacting timely and critical medical attention to many patients. Recognizing this, Essar Foundation and Essar Steel, Hazira organized a blood donation camp on March 11, 2014 at Care Nursing Home, NN Township, Hazira. About 105 employees from Essar Steel volunteered to donate blood at this camp. The camp was conducted in coordination with Blood Bank, New Civil Hospital, Surat.
Based on various health parameters among the participating donors, 24 were considered for donating 450ml blood and 81 were considered for donating 350ml blood. The donors were presented with a certificate of blood donation issued by Blood Bank, New Civil hospital, Surat and a donor card. The camp saw participation from first timers as well as those who have donated blood several times. Among the frequent donors was Mr. PV Srinivasan who was donating blood for 23rd time, and encouraged others to come forward and promote the spirit of volunteerism among Essarites.
