In view of the intense cold wave sweeping the region, Essar Foundation in Tori, with support of local NGO Kisan Vikas Swalambi Sahkari Samiti, undertook a survey in the project villages to identify affected populace. A special blanket distribution drive meant to provide relief to the elderly, especially women from five project affected villages was undertaken on January 13, 2014 with support of Essar Power (Jharkhand) Limited. One hundred and fifty blankets were given to the needy on the day.
Senior officials of Essar Power (Jharkhand) Limited, Essar Project (India) Limited, Essar Foundation CSR team and members of Kisan Vikas Swalambi Sahkari Samiti participated in the drive.
On request from the district administration, Essar Foundation also arranged for firewood in three strategic places in Chandwa town to help pavement-dwellers combat the cold wave.
