Essar Foundation marks its 68th Independence Day

Celebrations organized in association with Essar Steel at plants located in Dabuna, Paradip and Kirandul

Essar Foundation along with Essar Steel India Limited celebrated their 68th Independence Day on August 15, 2014. Several events were organized as part of the celebrations at different Essar plants located across India.

Celebrations at Dabuna, Odisha
At the premises of 11 schools in six periphery villages of Dabuna beneficiation plant, the Independence Day celebrations were organized with much zeal and zest. A slew of events were put together to mark the occasion, which saw participation from school children as well as employee volunteers from the Dabuna plant.



Education forms one of the major interventions for Essar Foundation in the area. As part of this thrust, 11 schools near Dabuna beneficiation plant in the tribal dominated Keonjhar district of Odisha are extended support through provision of community teachers, teaching learning materials and school uniforms to students.

A drawing competition was organized among 477 primary and upper primary school children along with a debate competition for 161 middle and high school students of six periphery villages on 10, 13 and 14 August, 2014 in the premises of their respective schools. The best three students from every school were awarded certificates of appreciation and prizes during the Independence Day flag hoisting ceremony. Blackboards and carom boards were also donated to schools.

Celebrations at Paradip, Odisha
Independence Day celebrations took place at four high schools in the periphery villages near the pelletization plant at Paradip. Around 1,400 school students participated to mark the occasion in their respective schools. Events such as debate competitions, drawing competitions were organized in all the schools during the preceding week and the winners were appreciated with a token of memento provided by Essar on August 15.



A sports competition was also organized at the Govinda Chandra High School, Nuagada and well-performing students were awarded prizes. The members of the village education committee for high schools were present at the occasion and appreciated Essar's endeavor towards encouraging students. Various senior officials from Essar, school head masters, presidents of village education committees along with the villagers marked their presence during the celebrations.

Celebrations at Kirandul, Chhattisgarh
In Kirandul, Essar Foundation and Essar Steel India Limited celebrated the Independence Day with students, teachers and parents of the backward and tribal villages by distributing education material to promote education. The day was celebrated with students of 45 schools including primary, middle and high schools from 13 gram panchayats. During the occasion, the organizers reached out to 1,441 students along with 165 teachers.
