Essar Foundation and Essar Steel support inter-school sports competition in Chhattisgarh

Residents of villages near the Essar Steel facilty at Kirandul in Chhattisgarh have been organizing an inter-school sports competition over the past few years. This year the three-day event was held in Cholnar village from January 15-17, 2015, and Essar teams helped organize it.



One thousand students belonging to 43 primary, middle and higher schools from Hiroli, Gumiyapal, Kalepal, Samalwar and Kutrem gram panchayats participated in the event. Various sports were conducted including athletics, volleyball, archery, kho-kho and kabaddi. Villagers were also present at the event to cheer students from their respective village and schools. The highlight of the last day was the dance performances by the students. The competition concluded with Essar officials distributing 350 prizes to the winners.



The objective behind organizing such an event was the numerous benefits of sports for children. Sports contribute towards the holistic development of children as they help promote good health, comradeship and a spirit of friendly competition.
