In many parts of India, the onset of the monsoon season is often associated with the high risk of contracting
illnesses such as malaria and dengue. The entire month of June is observed as
an anti-malaria month throughout the country, preceding as it does, the onset
of the monsoon. Joining the effort and as part of its Aarogya scheme, Essar Foundation organized
an anti-malaria camp in the Mota Mandha village of Khambhalia district (Vadinar, Gujarat) on June
21, 2012.
The idea behind the event was to throw light on important preventive steps, and diagnosis and cure of the disease, thereby raising awareness among the community. The program also included a detailed presentation on the various aspects of malaria. The end of the session was marked by an entertaining puppet show on the issue, which engaged children and elders alike.
Mr. 
KB Makadia, Head, Vadinar Power, was the chief guest of the event, and he spoke
about the importance of sound health, and the measures that have to be taken
to ensure the same. The event was attended by approximately 100 school children,
villagers, the sarpanch, and others. The event was also attended by Dr. Pandya,
District Health Officer, Jamnagar; Dr. Jitendra Parkar, District Malaria Officer,
Jamanagar; and Dr. Jitendra Prasad, Block Medical Officer, Khambhalia.
