Essar Foundation is working towards modernizing teaching methods in rural schools. The Essar Steel Pune team has extended support to the government-run Marathi-medium primary school at Dingarajwadi village by using various innovative educational tools for students.
On 13 February 2012, the Foundation installed K-YAN, a multimedia instrument, at the Dingarajwadi school. It gives audio-visual inputs to aid teaching of the complete syllabus from the 1st to the 10th standards. This helps teachers explain difficult concepts easily using animated audio-visual learning aids. There is renewed enthusiasm in students because of this innovative medium.
During a survey, the Foundation observed that students of the school were not particularly comfortable studying Mathematics and English as subjects. The teachers, too, were teaching these subjects using the traditional methodology. Many students were not able to cope with the demands of higher classes because of a lack of exposure at the primary level.
The Foundation provided the school with the English relay program and Math master program education kits to the school teachers. The kit is equipped with advanced education material and modern methods to serve as teaching aids for the two subjects. The study material was handed over to the school in a small program attended by Gram panchayat members and Essar senior management. Mitesh Shah, COO, Essar Steel Pune, and Mukund Jagirdar, Head, HRÂ and Admin, inaugurated and handed over K-YAN and educational kits to the school.
