Following the theme of 'plant a tree for each loved one', a group of
Shipping employees planted about 1,000 tree saplings at the Essar Agrotech
site near Kamshet, Maharashtra. The initiative was conceived to coincide
with World Environment Day. For the 13 city-based Essarites who
volunteered for the activity, the visit to the site was an adventurous
experience.On a wet, rainy day on July 6, the group travelled to Kamshet, which is about 100 km from Mumbai. About 250 fruit trees and 750 native forest species trees had been procured, and with the Essar Agrotech team who assisted with preparation of pits, the group went about the tree plantation with gusto. The intention was to rejuvenate the hillside forest; on the lower slopes of the hill the fruit trees will attract birds and other animals thereby enhancing the ecosystem. Essar Agrotech will be taking care of the saplings till they mature.
Said Kamlesh Karle, CEO-Essar Agrotech: "All employees should come
together for tree plantation; this way we can also extend our support by
spreading greenery across the dry patches of land owned by the government
and preserve the same for the next generation."Remarked a participant: "Overall it was a delightful experience, and we took back fun filled memories." Several colleagues have also undertaken to plant a tree each year in the names of their loved ones.
