1st December, 2015: On World AIDS Day this year, Essar Foundation, Kirandul, organised an orientation programme at the Government Higher Secondary School, Kirandul in Dantewada district to sensitize students on issues pertaining to HIV/AIDS around the world. Over a hundred students attended the programme. A brief presentation was made which covered the etiology of HIV/AIDS; the current situation in India and globally with respect to HIV and HIV/AIDS prevention.
A counsellor associated with Hindustan Latex Family Planning Promotion Trust (HLFPPT), an NGO which works on HIV/AIDS shared information about the diagnosis and treatment available, as well as Government programmes being implemented in the country. A documentary based on HIV/AIDS issues was shown to the students. The session ended after all the queries of the students were answered.
Essar Foundation also organized an awareness campaign at the Gadiras High School in Sukma district to raise awareness on HIV/AIDS. 200 students participated in the event. A rally was also organized by students on the occasion.
Every year on December 1st, World AIDS Day is observed globally. It is a way to demonstrate solidarity with people living with HIV.
