34 students with exemplary academic performance were awarded scholarships. They belonged to six villages near Essar Steel’s facility. During the event, Mr Chandra Singh Chouhan, Assistant Block Education Officer, Kuakonda Block, spoke about the various scholarship schemes offered by the government. Senior Essar Steel officials, the students’ parents, headmasters and teachers were also present at the event.
The Essar Foundation team has opened accounts for the students at the post office in Palnaar village so that the scholarship amount can be deposited there. The team had to get students from remote villages to come to the post office for their signatures, as well as travel to different schools for paperwork for acceptance of the scholarships. It wasn’t an easy task, but the Essar team managed to get it done.
Essar Foundation will work on strengthening this program to reach other deserving students from the region.
