The Essar Foundation views education as an essential component to inclusive growth and as such has identified it as one of the focus areas. As part of its education initiative, on June 15, 2012, the Foundation spearheaded the Kanya Kelavani
and Shala Pravesh Mahotsav initiatives in Gujarat by opening the doors of its
Hazira Primary School to new entrants from the neighboring anganwadis (government-sponsored child-care centers).

The new students assembled with their mothers and teachers at the school to commence their school careers. Through this initiative, the Foundation strives to provide village children the opportunity to gain an education. Close to 230 children from the area's anganwadis and primary schools were facilitated in the school on the day.
The programme, which began with an invocation song and a lighting of the lamp, was graced by chief guest S. P. Vanzara, district panchayat member of health, and other guests.
