On August 14, the Essar Foundation team welcomed 20 enthusiastic young first-year
MBA students to its corporate headquarters to be a part of the Foundation’s
corporate citizenship program (which otherwise the Foundation achieves through
its employee volunteer base).
The students are part of the MMS program of Indian Education Society (IES) Institute of Management. The institute, as a part of its curriculum, mandates students to do community service through attachment with a corporate house. The program theme is "Business of Business is not only Business”. The idea is to expose students to the social commitment of various corporate houses. The students are also encouraged to participate in the programs and activities designed by the corporate houses, thus paving the way for these youngsters to be socially responsible.
The Foundation team was invited to the college campus for a presentation to explain the work-plan mapped for the students and also to invite their expression of interest. There was an overwhelming response, out of which 20 students were signed up.
Over the next three months, two days a week, these students will work with the Essar Foundation team, visiting the various beneficiary groups and working on projects towards helping the community. The students will volunteer at schools and shelters for around nine weeks with children, teachers and other groups helping them learn English, computer skills, art and other skills.
The initiative has been envisioned by the institute and partnered by Essar Foundation to sensitize youngsters towards the developmental and social needs of the nation and its communities while making them better individuals.
