Hazira, Gujarat
The Primary School and the Essar Lok Vikas Kendra (ELVK) in Hazira celebrated International Literacy Day, which is commemorated worldwide on 5th September.
The students participated in English and Gujarati reading competitions that were conducted at the Primary School. Eighty students took part in the reading competition and 40 students participated in a computer literacy test at ELVK Hazira. The events were conducted to assess the students’ proficiency in both languages and gauge their current reading levels. The reading competition was a learning opportunity for the students as well.
Sukma, Chhattisgarh
In Sukma district this year, around 200 Aanganwadi Workers were trained to deliver various forms of preschool education, and were also trained in health & nutrition.
On International Literacy Day, a session was organized at Sukma, with the support of the district administration. The session focused on providing ‘Training to Trainers’.
Malkangiri
In the Chitrakonda district, Malkangiri has a literacy rate of 48.8 %. Essar Foundation’s efforts to commemorate International Literacy Day were welcomed by the community. A reading competition was organized at RSC-16 village of Chitrakonda block. Ten students participated in the competition, of which three were awarded certificates of excellence.
