Visakhapatnam
To mark the International Day for the Preservation of Ozone Layer, Essar Foundation and Essar Steel India Limited, Visakhapatnam, in association with The Hindu, organised an elocution competition for the students of Queens Mary’s Girl’s High School, Visakhapatnam.
The topic was ‘Accounting for every rain drop – rainwater harvesting for our future’. Each student was given three minutes to express their views. In addition, a tree plantation drive was taken up to mark World Ozone Day.
Essar Foundation also provided scholarships to certain selected students at the school for their academic prowess.
Mr. Venkatesan S, CEO of Essar Steel Vizag complex said that Essar Steel was happy to partner with The Hindu in different environment-related programmes throughout the year.
Chitrakonda
On the occasion of Ozone day, Essar foundation collaborated with Forest Department, Chitrakonda, to plant saplings. Essar volunteers participated in the event which saw the plantation of approximately 100 saplings.
Essar Foundation has been organising events that involve the community and create awareness about certain causes at the same time. Observing World Ozone Day in schools not only allowed children to learn about sustainable practices and environment conservation, but also enabled them to hone public-speaking skills at the same time.
