Mumbai: Essar Information Technology Limited (EITL), part Essar Group, has received CMMi Level 3 certification from USA’s Software Engineering Institute/Carnegie Mellon.
Essar Group is now amongst the select group of conglomerates in India and globally, that have achieved this rating for their IT functions. EITL attained the CMMi Maturity Level 3 rating following a successful Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement (SCAMPI) appraisal.
This milestone paves way for EITL’s entry into third-party IT services. EITL has been so far successfully deploying sophisticated IT solutions for the Essar Group world-wide – spanning ERP (SAP), Sales and Operations Planning and advanced planning (i2), Retail (JDA), and custom developed areas (including web-based solutions, middleware platforms and systems integration).
EITL will now aggressively ramp up its third party services profile both organically and inorganically.

CMMI Maturity Level 3 demands a common set of defined and documented standard processes used across the entire company; these processes are subject to continuous analysis and selective improvements. The key benefit of this certification is repeatability, predictability, and consistent performance in the methods and results of the work done resulting in cost control, ability to execute even more complex projects, reduced project timelines and an improved quality deliverables.
A team of auditors led by Dr. Rajiv Nag, of CyberQ Consulting based in New Delhi, an independent SEI-authorized lead appraiser conducted the appraisal. The team spent hundreds of hours examining many types of evidences – project documents and artifacts, interviews, spot checks etc.
The team interviewed program leaders, corporate executives, and project practitioners to confirm that standard processes are being followed in 18 core process areas, including project management, engineering, and project support functions.
