06 October, 2015, Pune: Essar Steel, through Essar Foundation, is collaborating with British Council in supporting the language improvement venture of Dingrajwadi Government School. The Foundation has ongoing programmes with other village schools near the Essar Steel Pune facility. This initiative aims to enhance English language proficiency in both students and teachers.
The integrated improvement package includes professional development programmes, reading challenge modules, digital library access, online resources and other elements specifically targeted at children. Dingrajwadi is the first ever government school in the Shirur block to get a membership of the British Council.
“Essar Steel believes in the power of partnerships. This is a big step forward especially in improving the quality of English language in rural schools,” said Mr Sridhar RV, CEO of the Essar Steel Pune facility in his inaugural address. The initiative was launched during the British Council Customer Service Week on 6th Oct 2015.
Essar is also supporting a cartooning workshop for students. As part of the Customer Service Week celebration, it will continue working with the school for the entire academic year. Essar Foundation has been supporting several other initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and capacity building for teachers. The Dingrajwadi school is upgrading its IT systems to enable digital learning, which will aid in implementing the newly-launched initiative.
