Essar Shipping's two newest ships – MV Kishore and MV Ashok – have been awarded the Green Passport certification and declared asbestos-free and devoid of any ozone-depleting substances.

When ships are recycled, almost nothing goes to waste. Materials and equipment are almost entirely reused. The 2003 guidelines on ship recycling, named the Green Passport, require ships to have an Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM). A ship's IHM is maintained throughout its operational life. Prior to recycling, additional details, such as hazards in stores and waste, are added, thus helping the recycling yard formulate a safer and more environmentally-sound plan to decommission the ship. It also helps to raise staff awareness of materials onboard the ship that may require special handling.
Essar's two new ships have undergone a comprehensive verification of
their inventory of hazardous materials by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS)
with due diligence conducted at the STX Dalian shipbuilding complex in China.
