Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh (MP)
MP celebrates the ‘Shala Praveshotsav’ or school enrolment fest every year in both urban and rural parts of the State. This initiative is a drive to celebrate the child’s first steps into school, to mark the beginning of their academic journey. It is also an occasion to boost the morale of those students who have worked hard at school. The drive, which is usually held at the beginning of a school year, aims to ensure hundred percent attendance, and retention of students throughout the year.
Essar Foundation, with support from Essar Power MP Limited, and in association with Saraswati Sishu Mandir, operates a fully subsidised school from Nursery to Class 10. As a major initiative during Shala Praveshotsav, school kits are presented to the students. The kits include books, notebooks, uniforms and shoes.
This year, over a thousand children received school kits at the event, which was held on 18th July’16. Meritorious students of Class 10th were also felicitated for their good performance in the Board examinations.
The program saw the presence of the District Collector of Singrauli, Mr Shashank Mishra; Superintendent of Police (SP), Singrauli Mr Rudolf Alvarise; Chief Operating Officer (COO) of EPMPL Mr MK Sharma; and Essar officials, students, teachers and guardians.
