Essar Power Gujarat (EPGL), which owns and operates the 2X600 MW coal-based thermal power plant at Salaya, has won two prestigious awards at the recently held CII’s 17th National Award for Excellence in Energy Management. The awards were handed over at a ceremony held in Hyderabad.
EPGL won the highest category award for ‘Excellent Energy Efficient Unit’, confirming its place in the industry as one of the most energy efficient units. EPGL has won this award for undertaking various innovative energy conservation projects, reducing specific energy consumption in plant, and thereby reducing carbon emissions. The company has also won the sole award for Most Useful Presentation among 11 contenders.
The events were judged by an eminent jury, comprising of experts from the power sector, as well as from well-known institutions, like BHEL, NTPC, IITs, TCE, NETRA and others.
Congratulating the Salaya Power team, Mr Ramesh Kumar, MD, EPGL said, “The team’s efforts and dedication towards energy efficiency has resulted in not only cleaner output, but also efficiency in cost for the company. We hope to continue the winning streak by furthering our efforts in energy conservation and thus contribute to the environment protection.”
EPGL’s continued focus on environment conservation and energy efficiency has placed it among the top 10 most energy efficient thermal power units in the country. The Company has won the Peabody Award for the lowest emission of SO2 and NOX amongst all coal fired power plants in the country; it has also won Energy Efficiency award and the Gold Category Award for Safety from Greentech Foundation.
