Adhering to the Gyan Jyoti Scheme of the Essar Foundation, CSR Hazira awarded scholarships to 14 students of a village school on March 22, 2012, who got 75 per cent marks in the Board exams of Class 10 and 12 or government technical training diploma exams (2010-11).
The awardees received Rs 2,000 and a certificate of recognition. A panel of guests was also invited to the event, to provide encouragement and show their support. The schoolchildren welcomed them with the invocation song followed by a dance program.
The chief guest and senior Essar steel executive, Mr Jay Purohit took the initiative to inspire the students to aspire for more knowledge through searching for answers for even seemingly trivial matters, while the guest of honor, Mr Jyotir Pandya (recipient of the 'Best Principal Award' of Gujarat State from Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi last year), Principal of N Tekrewala School, emphasized the need for hard work and perseverance as effective tools for success.
The newly elected Deputy Sarpanch of Hazira village, Mr Bharat Bhai Patel, reaffirmed the requirement of quality education for the success of our nation as a whole. Principal Mitesh Parekh recapitulated innumerable instances of assistance and support from the Essar Foundation in developing the high school at Hazira.
Parents, students and teachers all echoed their appreciation for the patronage of Essar, working towards building and boosting community morale.
