Essar Steel, Vizag awarded best CSR company of the year at the Best CSR Practices Awards 2014

The award was in recognition of Essar’s overall excellence in CSR, especially its efforts in livelihood promotion among disadvantaged youth

New Delhi: Essar Steel India Limited (EStIL), Vizag operations was recently awarded the Best CSR Company of the Year Award 2014 at the National CSR Conclave held at New Delhi on March 21, 2014 organized by Think Media Inc. The award is an acknowledgement of the CSR activities undertaken by Essar Foundation in rural Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. The award was received by Mr Bhakthavatsalam K, Chief Operating Officer, EStIL, Vizag at the event. Mr Sunil Upadhyay represented Essar Foundation at the award function. The inaugural address was delivered by Ms Sara Wilshaw, Minister (Commercial) and Trade Program Manager at the High Commission of Canada in India. 


At the event, panel discussions on topics like When CSR meets HR and Education were organized. Several national and international panelists and moderators participated in the panel discussions. More than 250 organizations had applied for the awards under different categories including education, health, sanitation and hygiene, environment and best CSR company. Essar won this award for overall excellence in CSR. The jury recognized Essar’s efforts in livelihood promotion through brick-making training for youth in Odisha, Advanced Welding School in Chhattisgarh and specialized medical camps for eye care in remote rural areas of Andhra Pradesh in the most trying socio-geographical conditions.  

The Essar Foundation team under Vizag operations includes Mr Sabal Jha, Mr Tej Prakash Sharma, Mr Subrahmanyam Akella, Mr Jitesh and several field volunteers whose untiring efforts against the odds have brought about some of the most recognized developmental outcomes in the area.
