Essar Foundation and Essar Steel Hazira launch Gyan Jyoti scholarship awards

Essar Foundation and Essar Steel Hazira launched the Gyan Jyoti Awards on January 26, 2015. The annual scholarship prize program is meant to encourage meritorious high school students to continue their education. This year, 41 students from four schools in Choryasi block of Surat district received the scholarships.



The students were selected based on their performance in the 2014 class ten exams of the Gujarat State Examination Board. The students selected are either continuing their schooling in class eleven or pursuing vocational diplomas. Those pursuing commerce were given a cash award of Rs 5,000, while students pursuing science were awarded Rs 7,500. Students doing diploma courses were given Rs 10,000.



It is envisaged that the annual Gyan Jyoti Awards will be a motivating factor for students appearing for their Board Exams in March this year. They will be eligible for the scholarship awards which will be distributed on Independence Day, August 15, 2015.

The village sarpanches, school principals, teachers, as well as parents appreciated Essar’s initiative.
