Chandwa block in Jharkhand, where Essar Power Jharkhand's (EPJL) Tori project is located, is in the grip of a cold wave; many deaths due to the extreme cold have been reported. Concerned by the reports, EPJL and Essar Foundation stepped forward and arranged for immediate distribution of blankets to help the poor and needy combat the cold.
Since January 5, 2012, the Essar team has been distributing blankets to the destitute and needy at various locations, along roads, streets, markets and at the railway station. So far, about 500 blankets have been distributed in Chandwa township and the four neighboring villages.
Additionally, at the request of the block administration and the local community, Essar has arranged for the distribution of firewood at various places in the neighboring villages.
Our efforts are made more effective by the support from the local administration, including the block development officer, circle officer and
panchayat functionaries.
