At the start of the New Year, Essarites based in the Essar Steel Pune facility
(ESPF) made a commitment to reach out to the Sewadham Matimand Niwasi Vidyalaya
– a residential school for children with special needs – in Koregaon,
Pune.
The group comprising faculty and participants of Batch 1 & 2 of ‘Utkarsh’, an ongoing employee skill enhancement project, and team HR, visited the school. The group was acquainted with the school having already visited last year. As on the previous occasion, the group pooled in funds, and with spontaneous contributions from colleagues, came up with a collection of Rs15,000. The amount was used to purchase a DVD player with speakers, some very large room-sized carpets, staples such as rice and dal and some packaged foods and fruit, which were donated to the school.
A participant says, “On January 18, 2013, a group of us visited the
school and spent time interacting with the students. The children were very
happy to see us again and excitedly updated us on their individual achievements
since our last visit, and shared their preparations for the upcoming Republic
Day celebrations in the school. ”
