The Essar Foundation, under its School Improvement Programme, strives to provide a comprehensive education to youngsters who come from economically disadvantaged sections of society. Sports events form an integral part of the programme.
On July 20, 2012, the Foundation organized an inter-school volleyball tournament for the schools
of Choryasi Taluka, near the Hazira complex in Gujarat, India. Nav Jagruti Vidya
Vihar (Hazira High School) volunteered to host the 38 teams, comprising 540
students from 10 schools in the vicinity.
Through the tournament, the Foundation strove to foster the quality of friendship and amity among students and inspire them to utilize their energy for laying the foundation for a healthy society. It also aimed to inculcate team spirit among the children.
The tournament was attended by parents, teachers and senior citizens of the village.
