The Vadinar Oil Terminal Ltd (VOTL), which is one of Essar’s most picturesque facilities, completes 10 years of operations on 22 September 2016.
Strategically located at the southern tip of the Gulf of Kutch, VOTL is a 58-MMTPA facility consisting of a marine terminal; crude, product and intermediate storage tankage of over 3 million cubic metre capacity, and rail and road gantries with 13 kms of railway siding. These facilities are critical for the successful operation of Essar’s 20 MTPA Vadinar Refinery.
- More than 3,000 vessels have been berthed at Essar Ports’ Vadinar Marine Terminal since it started operations a decade ago, in September 2006. Crude oil tanker, MT Hovden Spirit, became the 3,000th vessel to be berthed at VOTL.
- Proximity to India’s only marine sanctuary and the Indo-Pak border, 24*7 complex operations, weather and tidal fluctuations: These are just some of the safety challenges the VOTL team faces daily. And despite this, it has managed to clock over 3,600 days of safe operations!
- The marine terminal has handled 225 million tonnes of cargo over the last 10 years. In fact, FY 2015-16 has been the best performing year for VOTL with the marine terminal's throughput reaching 27.8 million tonnes.
- The marine terminal has been the best performing terminal in the Kandla Port Trust (KPT) for two consecutive years.
Team VOTL completes 10 years
On 22nd September 2006, 10 years back, Vadinar’s Marine Terminal was set to receive its first crude carrier. Everyone was ready for the big moment – the team at the control room, the pilots, the divers at SPM! All operations were conducted smoothly and since that day, there has been no turning back for the team. Essar CEO, Mr Prashant Ruia went onboard the berthed vessel and congratulated the entire team. Relive some of the moments from that iconic day and meet the team that has made this epic journey possible.
