The Essar Foundation was a sponsor of the National IRIS Fair 2011, at Chandigarh.
IRIS (Initiative for Research and Innovation in Science) is a public-private partnership initiative by the Department of Science & Technology (DST),
Intel and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). It has been promoting
and nurturing science and scientific research among young Indian innovators
since last the five years, by providing a platform for young geniuses to display
their scientific talent. Additionally, these children are encouraged, recognized
and enthused to pursue a career in scientific research, to innovate.
This year the Fair was held in Chandigarh, from November 17-20. About 200 young geniuses, in the age group of 8-18 years, with 100 science teachers from all over India, participated in the fair. Over 30 eminent scientists from the country, were also present to extend their support.
The Essar Foundation gifted an ‘Innovation Box’ to each of the young participants in this fair; the box included, a year's subscription to Scientific American magazine, two science kits – making science toys from waste material and a Simply Science kit – and a solar lamp assembly kit.
It was a forum for the Essar Foundation to engage with young India in their quest for scientific innovation – a concept that aligns with the Foundation’s commitment towards education.
