Team HR and Admin, Essar Projects (EPL), Vadinar, commemorated the country’s
63rd Republic Day on January 26, 2012, by organising a special event, a Sports Meet, for the construction
workers of Prayag Labour Colony, near Vadinar (Gujarat).
The Prayag residential colony houses contract workers (almost all migrant laborers), engaged at various construction sites in the Vadinar complex. For this section of citizens, it was a rare opportunity to participate in a formal celebration of the national occasion.
The program began with the hoisting of the national tricolour, by Rajendra Goyal, VP-HSE, EPL, Vadinar. Mr Goyal in his speech, focused on various aspects of safe working, and on maintaining brotherhood and harmony at the workplace as well as in the colony. Later, the children of the contract workers performed to various patriotic songs.
Soon thereafter, the Sports Meet got underway. Various events were organized for the workers including volleyball matches, Punjabi-style kabaddi, a sack race, slow cycling and tug-of-war contests. Events were organized for juniors too and the children enthusiastically participated in lemon-and-spoon races and 100m sprints. Throughout the program, emotions soared high as participants and audience alike, were overwhelmed by feelings of patriotism and team spirit. The event concluded with the prize distribution ceremony.

Village school celebrates Republic Day with Essar Foundation
The Essar Foundation celebrated Republic Day 2012 at Hazira High School (Navjagruti Vidya Vihar). The students were familiarized with the significance of January 26, 1950, one of the most important dates in Indian history, through speeches, dances and songs performed by groups of students.
