In order to boost Activity Based Learning (ABL) in junior classes, Essar Foundation and Essar Bulk Terminal Limited (EBTL), Hazira distributed Teaching Learning Materials (TLM) to students of Hazira Primary School and Mataphaliya Primary School on July 26, 2014. 300 students from classes 1 to 4 were given stationary for craft work, coloring sheets, crayons and water colors.
Essar Foundation and EBTL extended support in response to the school management committee’s request to complement the Pragna initiative of the Government of Gujarat. Pragna is an activity based learning approach with an objective to correct and overcome difficulties in primary school learning. It focuses on opening the classroom to a more holistic way of working with children by actively involving them in the learning process. In this approach, students are divided into groups and are taught certain activities. After they acquire those skills, they move to next level of activities with a new group.
Government officials from the District Education Department, Surat were present at the event along with senior officials from EBTL, Hazira, who distributed the material. A Pragna class that contained all the TLM was also inaugurated. Mr Bhupendra Modi, Primary Education Officer, Hazira taluka, thanked Essar for its support.
