Essar Foundation joined hands with the State ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) department, Jamnagar, to celebrate the birthdays of a group of 25 children aged between 3-6 years, on July 2, 2013. The day also marked the formal launch of this monthly programme.
Accordingly, the 2nd of each month will witness birthday celebrations of all the children having their birthdays in that particular month. Every ‘Aanganwadi’ (government-run early education centres) will follow the practice.
The brain-child of the State Minister, Women and Child Development, Government of Gujarat, the initiative was started with the intention of introducing an element of fun to the Aanganwadi, besides fulfilling the desire of each child to have a special day of his/her own.
The venue for the launch was the Zilla Panchayat building, Jamnagar, where little children from four villages celebrated their special day, complete with sumptuous cakes, fancy clothes, balloons and a lot of fun. The little children were excited receiving gifts and clothes from the ICDS department; Essar Foundation gifted school bags to the birthday kids.
The Foundation also played host to the Aanganwadi workers of these four villages, besides the guests and the children.
