Experience shows that poor health hinders the learning progress, interest in activities and overall growth of children. Under the health initiatives undertaken by the Essar Foundation, school health is a key component, where in the health and nutrition status of children can be kept track of while checking health issues at an early stage. Essar Foundation organized a one-day medical check-up camp for children on August 30, 2013 at Government Primary School, Hazira Village as part of the community outreach program of Essar Bulk Terminal Limited.

The Additional District Health Officer of Surat, Dr Jitesh Bhatt inaugurated the health camp along with Mr Deepak Berry, VP Finance &Accounts, EBTL and Mr Vikas Singh, Head Admin & HR, EBTL.
Inaugurating the program, Dr Bhatt conveyed his earnest thanks to Essar Bulk Terminal Limited, Hazira for its efforts to improve community health. He emphasized that children – especially girl children – in rural areas suffer from anemia, calcium deficiency and nutritional deficiencies. Efforts like this from corporates in convergence with government can yield remarkable results in monitoring and improving nutritional parameters among children.

Veteran pediatrician, Dr Mansingh Patel performed the medical check-up of around 200 students of the school on nutritional and growth elements (height and weight to identify anemia, nutritional deficiency etc.), ear, nose and throat ailments, eye sight and other seasonal ailments. Medicines were provided free of cost to children as per the pediatrician’s prescription.

Blood group test was also done since the education department is promoting the mention of blood group of school children on their student ID cards.
