Keeping in tune with the needs of the times, Essar Foundation has deployed advanced technology and learning resources for a newly initiated program that aims to improve soft skills in spoken English among children and youth of Hazira and neighboring villages.

The Foundation organized two days’ training of facilitators in communication skills and personality development through its technical support partner, Liqvid. The BBC-certified E-Learning Training Course for women participants was conducted on July 25 and 26 at Briquette House, Hazira. The aim was to create trainer–facilitators who would facilitate learning and guide trainees during classes throughout the course period.

Resource personnel from Liqvid conducted the training that was simple to retain and enriching for the participants. The courseware covers speaking, listening, vocabulary and writing skills, and is based on ‘Blended Methodology’ with Instruction-Led Learning (ILL) and Web-Led Learning (WLL).

The software is designed suitably to cater to learning needs of both children as well as adults. The bilingual (Gujarati and English) course would help adults while the graded ones would serve school students.

The training aimed at ‘Less Teaching More Facilitating’, where participants were trained to use the e-learning software for facilitating sessions. Ability of the learners was measured on factors including confidence, fluency, gesture, pronunciation and grammar.

The participants responded actively to handling software as teaching aid. They also participated in a practical session in a school of Hazira village to provide them hands on experience at facilitation. The e-learning program aims to build the confidence and employability of 200 children and youth annually.
