Hazira Primary School children's tryst with nature
An important part of the Essar Foundation's education initiative
is to provide learning opportunities outside classrooms and books. Towards this
end, on February 10, 2012, the Foundation took a group of students from Hazira
Primary school, and their teachers, to the nature park at Sarthana, Surat (Gujarat).
The Sarthana nature park has been designed as an open zoo that gives visitors the feeling of what it would be like in an actual forest. The children were thrilled to see wild animals like lions, tigers, bears, cheetahs, foxes, hippos, monkeys, panthers and wolves, at such close range. The Green House facility housing butterflies was another attraction for the children.
Village women visit Horticultural Exhibition and Flower Show
On February 11, 2012, a group of women from the villages around Hazira visited the Annual
Essar Flower Show organized at Nand Niketan Township, Hazira. The women also
got an opportunity to attend informative horticultural shows and were introduced
to techniques of plant propagation, cutting and budding. The visit was facilitated
by the Foundation as part of its program to improve the all-round awareness of village women.
