On the occasion of India’s 69th Independence Day, Essar Steel in Hazira and the Essar Foundation awarded scholarships to 57 meritorious students as part of the Gyan Jyoti Awards, which were launched earlier this year.
The students were selected for their performance in the secondary and higher secondary examinations of the Gujarat education board. The Gyan Jyoti Awards is the only scholarship scheme, apart from some government-aided ones, that is available to students in the Hazira belt, which comprises eight villages with a combined population of over 50,000.
The initiative drew praise from village sarpanches, school principals, teachers, members of school management committees, and parents. The scholarships were awarded at separate events organised in four Hazira schools, with more than 3,000 people attending the functions.
