The Essar Foundation lent its support to the Government of Gujarat’s school enrollment drive – Shala Pravesh Utsav – on August 16, 2012. As part of the drive, school kits were distributed to a total of 535 children who were newly enrolled at five schools in Salaya.
Apart from the distribution of school kits, the Foundation also felicitated the senior-most teachers in each of the schools, and awarded certificates to the top three rank-holders of the previous academic year. The event saw the active participation from government officials as well as Essar employees.
The Shala Pravesh Utsav initiative aims to encourage children (especially girls) to attain primary education and bring down the rate of primary school dropouts. Shailesh Shah, Deputy Collector, Jamnagar District, was the chief guest at the event, and stressed the importance of primary education for children. Also in attendance were Mr Shale Mohammad, President, Salaya Nagar Palika; Mr Shekh, Chief Officer, Salaya Nagar Palika; Mr Bharat Kakkad, JGM, Vadinar Oil Terminal (VOTL); Mr Arvind Mor, JGM, VOTL; Mr Banshiva Ladva, Port Captain, Essar Bulk Terminal Salaya; and Mr Vijay Patel, DGM, Corporate Relations Group.
In June this year, the Foundation participated in a similar effort at Jamnagar (also in Gujarat), distributing a total of 1,500 school kits to first-time school entrants.
