Essar Foundation and Essar Steel India Limited (EStIL), Vizag organised two eye care camps at Palnar Gram Panchayat and Gadiras village in Dantewada district, Chhattisgarh. Both are remote tribal areas and face the lack of qualified vision care specialists. All the patients screened at the eye camps live in villages that are in proximity to EStIL’s operations.
The screening camps were organized through the Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital, Vizag. 300 patients from more than 10 villages underwent screening at the camp in Palnar. Over 150 patients were provided with spectacles on the spot and 10 were referred for eye surgeries at Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital. 450 patients from 25 villages were tested in Gadiras. More than 330 patients got spectacles, while 24 patients were identified and referred for eye surgeries at Sankar Foundation Eye Hospital.
Depending on the needs of the locals, Essar Foundation and Essar Steel plan to organize various such camps in the future.
