The teacher’s training program saw 58 primary school teachers from 18 schools undergo training in English and Mathematics, with an emphasis on group development, group work, role play and practice sessions. Teachers were introduced to specially designed kits, which would help them motivate students and help them gain competency in numeracy, language and analytical skills.
This multimedia training kit, called K-Yan, has been designed by the IL&FS Education & Technology Services Ltd, which promotes education, employability and empowerment, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. K-Yan integrates the latest in technology with the learning and training needs of students.
The K-Yan that was introduced to teachers includes the West Bengal Board syllabus for students from class V to X in the Bengali medium. The Essar Foundation has decided to supply these K-Yan kits to four high schools in areas impacted by its coal-bed methane project in eastern India.
