One of the Essar Foundation's key focus areas is health and welfare of rural communities. As part of this, the Foundation organized a general health checkup camp for the students of the NK Ruia High School, Tungi village, Lonavala (Maharashtra), on January
17, 2012.
The school is already provisioned with free education and residential facilities for the 235 children who are studying from Class 5-10. The children belong to 6-7 villages located near the Essar Agrotech Tungi facility.
The camp included initial screening for nutritional deficiencies and dental, ENT and skin tests. Eleven children were identified with minor health deficiencies, which were addressed by providing short-term treatment and changes in diet. The parents of the children were provided inputs to prevent such problems in the future.
The camp was conducted with the help of a team of doctors from a Lonavala-based medical trust.
